Alden Nowlan
Born near Windsor, Nova Scotia, Alden Nowlan was best known
as a poet whose books won both the Silver Medal of the
Canadian Authors' Association and the Governor-General's
Award for poetry.  He was also, in collaboration with Walter
Learning, a playwright whose dramas have been presented on
stage, radio and television.

His novel
Various Persons Named Kevin O'Brien, set in Nova
Scotia, was recently re-issued in paperback by Clark, Irwin.  

He has published a collection of short stories
Miracle at Indian
River
, and writes a monthly column for The Atlantic Advocate
and a weekly column for
The Telegraph-Journal of Saint John,
New Brunswick.  

His books include
Nine Micmac Legends (1983).

He was the Writer-in-Residence at the University of New
Brunswick in Fredericton from 1969 until his death in 1983, and
has a provincial poetry award named in his honour.
