Dean Jobb has been a full-time faculty member of the School of
Journalism at the University of King’s College since 2003. He taught part-
time at the school from 1990 to 2003 and developed courses on the law and
the media in Canada, research for journalists and investigative reporting.
He was a reporter, editor and columnist during a 20-year career at the
Halifax Herald, a reporter for The Daily News from 1983-1984, and a
contributing editor to Elm Street Magazine. He writes a column on legal
issues for Media, the magazine of the Canadian Association of Journalists,
and his work has appeared in other national magazines, including
Canadian Business, Canadian Lawyer, The Lawyers Weekly, MD Canada
and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Canada. He is a three-time
winner of the Atlantic Journalism Award and has been nominated for a
National Newspaper Award and a National Magazine Award.

He has a BA (Honours) in Canadian Studies from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New
Brunswick and is completing his MA in Atlantic Canada Studies at Saint Mary’s University and
writing his thesis on freedom of information in Nova Scotia.
