Donnie Doyle
Donnie Doyle was born on Prince Edward Island in 1933,
fourth of nine children born to Harold and Myrtle Doyle.  He
grew up on his family's farm and attended the local one-room
school until he completed Grade Ten.

During the 1950s, he spent stints off-Island, working in
Toronto and on the Dewline, but he soon settled back on the
Island where, in 1960, he married Kitty Duffy.  Together, they
raised five daughters.

Throughout the 1960s, Donnie worked as a part-time farmer
and carpenter, but in the early 1970s he took up studies at the
University of Prince Edward Island, where he graduated with a
B.Ed. in 1974.  During his career as a teacher, he taught at Bloomfield, Tignish, and Alberton
Elementary Schools and at Hernewood Junior High School, and in 1989 he completed a diploma in
Special Education.

Donnie Doyle is what you might call "a local character" from the West Prince region of Prince Edward
Island.  He is also a local "bard" or folk poet and is often called upon to write about local events,
immortalizing them in poems and songs.  Published in 2000,
Along Lot Seven Shore contains many
memoirs, anecdotes, narrative songs and poems created by Donnie, his cousin Steve, and his father
Harold.

Donny retired from teaching in 1996 and lives in Bloomfield, Prince Edward Island.
