Joan Dawson
Joan Dawson is a member of the Lunenburg County Historical Society and the Heritage Trust of Nova
Scotia and is a Fellow of the Royal Nova Scotia Historical Society.  She has written extensively about
local history and early mapping in the Maritimes.  She is the author of
The Mapmaker’s Eye and co-
author of
Historic LaHave River Valley, and wrote the introduction to the Historical Atlas of the
Maritime Provinces, 1878 (republished 2005).   She has undertaken projects as a Research Associate
with the Nova Scotia Museum, assisted in the production of a catalogue of the contents of Province
House and taken part in events celebrating the 2004th anniversary of Champlain’s arrival in Nova
Scotia and the Congrès mondial acadien.  Her most recent publication,
The Mapmakers' Legacy, is
scheduled for release in 2007.
