A. Kenneth Bell
Born in 1914 in Midnapore, Alberta, A. Kenneth Bell moved with his family to Summerside, Prince
Edward Island, at an early age.  His father later opened a hotel in O'Leary, where Ken Bell performed
general maintenance duties before taking electrical training in Saint John, New Brunswick.  He operated
his own electrical company, Wright and Bell, then joined the Town of Summerside's electrical department
in 1955 as Technical Supervisor in charge of metering.  He served there until his retirement in 1979.

Ken Bell died in 1988.  His widow, Rosamond Wright Bell, lives in Ottawa now, as do their two children,
Diane and Donald.

During his life, Ken Bell was passionately interested in all things electrical.  He helped develop the
Electric Service League, formed in the 1950s and was the force behind its off-shoot, the Electric
Historical Foundation.  He also spearheaded the restoration of the Scales Pond plant in the 1960s, in
including the adaptation of the house on the site as an electrical museum.  It was stocked with many of
his own artifacts.

His consuming interest in electricity and a life-time devotion to its practice and preservation led to the
publication of
Getting the Lights.  Published in 1989, this is Ken Bell's view of the development of
electrical generation on Prince Edward Island.
