| Margie Carmichael |
Born and raised in Elliotvale, Prince Edward Island, Margie
Carmichael is a musician, songwriter, playwright, comic, and
storyteller. One of ten children born to John Carmichael and his
wife Mary Murphy, Margie credits her parents with passing
along to their children "a love of music and creative spirits".
Margie's work is rich in local folklore and tradition. She has
written over a hundred original songs. She has performed many
of these herself, but her works have travelled with other artists
across North America and the United Kingdom.
Margie's writing extends to poetry, plays, and short stories.
Most recently, she has penned And My Name Is . . . Stories From
the Quilt (2006), a collection of short stories about ordinary
women with extraordinary skills, gifts, and strengths.

Of her Island roots, Margie says, "I've been tripping over my roots since I was small, being reminded
constantly of where I've come from, who I'm related to and how, the genetic and historical reasons why
the so-and-sos are the way they are." She concludes, "my roots don't trip me now. I tie my boots with
them, they walk with me".
