Scott Russell
Scott Russell is an award-winning sports journalist who has covered the
Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, and the Canada Games.

Russell has a vast and wide-ranging amount of experience, passion and
knowledge in sports.  Upon completing his work at the 2003 NHL Playoffs
for
Hockey Night in Canada, he went on to host the network's coverage of
the 2003 Pan Am Games in the Dominican Republic. I n August 2004, he
was the CBC Sports late-night host from the Olympic Summer Games in Athens.  He also hosted CBC's
coverage of the World Aquatics Championships from Montreal in 2005, and the Commonwealth Games
from Melbourne, Australia in 2006.  In addition to his extensive hosting duties, Russell has also covered
triathlon, gymnastics, rugby, cross-country skiing and biathlon at several Olympic Games, Pan Am
Games and Commonwealth Games.

Russell was a host on Hockey Night in Canada from 1989 to 2003, primarily out of Montreal.  And in
January 2001, Russell and Kelly Hrudey co-hosted
After Hours, Hockey Night in Canada's post-game
show.

After joining CBC Charlottetown in 1985 as a reporter, Russell turned to sports in 1986, quickly
establishing himself as a talent.  From 1988 to 1992, he was a sports reporter and anchor for CBMT in
Montreal, until he moved to Toronto as a network sports commentator.

Russell won the 1985 Hugh Bremner Award for Broadcast Journalism at the University of Western
Ontario.  He has been nominated for three Gemini Awards, and won the award for Best Host or
Interviewer in A Sports Program or Sportscast in 2005 for his work on CBC Sports Saturday.  He was
previously nominated in 1998 and 2004.

An accomplished author, he wrote
Ice Time: A Canadian Hockey Journey.  He also co-wrote The Rink -
Stories from Hockey's Home Towns
, with fellow broadcaster Chris Cuthbert.  Another book, Open
House: Canada and the Magic of Curling, a grassroots look at one of this country's favourite sports,
was released in October 2003.

An avid runner, Russell has completed three marathons, including the 109th edition of The Boston
Marathon in 2005.

The Oshawa, Ontario native currently resides in Toronto with his wife Catherine and their two children.
