Jean M. MacLennan
"His kingdom stretched from shore to shore."
Rev. John MacLennan, the first minister of Belfast,
Prince Edward Island was a distinctive figure in the
early days of settlement.  He ministered to the Belfast
area, as well as other Scottish Presbyterian
settlements on the Island and in Nova Scotia.  His
great labours over a quarter of century are mentioned
in various histories of the Province.

Published in Scotland, this biography of his life
presents a rare overview of the man and his works.
This is essential reading for those interested in the
Belfast area of Prince Edward Island or in the early
Presbyterian Church on the Island.

"As soon as he arrived, the minister started plans for the building of a new church.  There was a small log
church at Pinette, near the old French cemetery, which dated from the very earliest years of the Selkirk
Settlement.  It had been used for the dual purposes of church and school.  This was too small for a rapidly
growing population . . . "
