Jean Pierre Roma
of the Company of the East of Isle Saint Jean
Restless, energetic, and strong-willed, Jean Pierre Roma brought
settlers and convict labourers to carve an international trading
empire out of the virgin forests of 1700s Isle St. Jean (Prince
Edward Island).  Roma's dreams, feuds, and parties enlivened
with the wilderness as he expanded his influence.  Maker of the
Island's first roads, builder of a thriving community at Trois
Rivieres (now Brudenell Point, Prince Edward Island), and
successful entrepreneur, he saw all his accomplishments
destroyed in 1745 by a band of privateers.  Yet the story of Roma
lives on as an inspiration and a cautionary tale to modern day
leaders and builders.

Roma continues as the heart of "Roma at Three Rivers" historic
site and nature trails in eastern Prince Edward Island.  This book
invites you to retrace his life and walk in his steps on the site
where he lived.

At last, the story of this fascinating entrepreneur is once again
available in a fine new edition of Jill MacLean’s classic 1977
biography.

"One of the Island's best-known personalities from the French Regime, Jean Pierre Roma was an ambitious
entrepreneur and proprietor whose accomplishments during his 14 years on the Island are still thought to be
outstanding.  Although his venture came to an abrupt end in 1745, his Island dream is a source of inspiration
and admiration, while his writings that survived contribute significantly to the natural and human history of the
Island."
