| "Christine took a deep breath as her family's Jeep started up the ramp to the Confederation Bridge, crossing from the mainland on to Prince Edward Island. She was about to leave her old life behind and start a new one. As they arrived on the small Island province, Christine scanned the rolling farm fields." "Gazing out over the water again, Christine noticed a light in the distance she hadn't seen before. She squinted and looked again. There, on the tip of land just before the harbour opened up into the Northumberland Strait, was a red and white lighthouse. Christine stared in fascination as pulses of bright, white light danced across the waves of the harbour. The powerful beacon was like a messenger from far away, telling her, gently, soothingly, that everything would work out." |
