Three Tall Trees
David Weale
Illustrated by Dale McNevin
Written in rhyming verse, and geared to children
aged four to seven, this fable, as told by Enigma
the crow who watches over us all, is the story of
Jacob and Paul and Elijah Ali: three of the
forest's very oldest and largest trees.

Living in such close proximity, the three tall trees
are bound to fight with one another.  And they do.
Practically every day.  They argue about whose
roots are the deepest.  They argue about whose
branches are the widest.  And they argue about
whose sap is the purest.  Each thinks that only he
is right.  And when the arguing is finished, the
fighting begins.

But they've all forgotten one thing:
Down near the ground
where the truth can be found
is a sight to amaze and enthrall
for it's there you can see
just as plain as can be
the three trees aren't three trees at all.

No, Jacob and Paul and Elijah Ali are all parts of
the very same tree.

This delightful tale is sure to capture the
imaginations of people of all ages, telling us the
most basic of truths: no matter how great or how
small we may be, we are all part of it all . . . that
when we hurt others, we are hurting ourselves . . .
