this cookbook combines easy step-by-step recipes with
charming watercolors of Anne and her friends and quotations
from Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea and Anne of
Windy Poplars.
The assembly of tempting recipes can be easily created by any
young cook. Never before have good things to eat and drink
been so successfully derived from cooking episodes in
children's literature. Recipes include "Poetical Egg Salad
Sandwiches" and "Anne's Liniment Cake". All of the dishes
were inspired by references in the books, although "Marilla's
Plum Pudding" with "Caramel Pudding Sauce" is offered
without requiring the presence of a certain mouse. And "Diana
Barry's Favourite Raspberry Cordial," which made Diana
drunk, is here nonalcoholic.
This book will surely appeal to young Anne fans, but with
DiLella's pleasant drawings, it can be enjoyed by anyone. The
treats are fun to make - and they'll be sure to turn out well
because they were kitchen-tested by a twelve-year old who had
perfect results!
