In planning ways to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the
arrival of the Selkirk Settlers to Belfast, the Belfast
Historical Society published Recipes of Yore, a cookbook
honoring the many truly great cooks of the Belfast area.
A committee appointed to carry out the project sent out
requests for recipes to local residents. They were
overwhelmed with the response, as people from the
Belfast area submitted recipes that reminded them of the
tastes and smells of food prepared by their mothers,
grandmothers, aunts and neighbours of long ago.
Recipes of Yore will take the reader back to memories of
delicious and nutritious foods: of coming home from school
to be greeted by the smell of bread fresh from the oven; of
birthday cakes made from scratch; of the bountiful food at
the annual Tea Party; or of fruitcakes ready for family
gatherings at Christmas time.
