Acadian Redemption:
From Beausoleil Broussard
to the Queen's Royal Proclamation
Warren Perrin
It is said that extraordinary times produce extraordinary
people.  That was certainly the case with Joseph Beausoleil.

Joseph dit Beausoleil Broussard (b. 1702-d. 1765) came to his
finest hour with the expulsion of his people from Acadie in
1755. It is impossible to capture in words the agony, the pain,
the suffering, and the humiliation of the Acadian people during
the years of expulsion.  The actions of Beausoleil now would be
called guerrilla warfare.  Beausoleil called it "la guerre".  He
was a brave man, who tried to make a difference.

This book attempts to examine the life of one man who became
a folk hero to people of Acadian descent, both in Acadia and in
south Louisiana.  We can never know for sure what motivated
Beausoleil, but we do know that the result of his efforts allowed
the Acadian culture to continue developing in a new
environment.

While not directly written about Prince Edward Island, this
book gives readers great insight into the Deportation and early
Acadians.  A "must read" for anyone with Acadian roots.

"While preparing a presentation on Joseph dit Beausoleil Broussard . . . Perrin realized that no one had written a book on the
life of this heroic Acadian.  Perrin has corrected this oversight by compiling an interesting book on an Acadian freedom fighter
who resisted British aggression and ultimately led his people from Acadia to a new life in Southwest Louisiana."

" . . . a fascinating and most unusual book . . . [readers] will find the account refreshing as few histories recount the struggle
against the British expulsion, and almost none follow the story of a single individual.  In at least two senses, Warren Perrin has
changed history - into His Story."
