The 1881 Census of Prince Edward Island is a major
resource for genealogists and historians. It serves the
needs of those seeking information on a particular family
as well as those looking for demographical statistics.
The Prince Edward Island Genealogical Society entered
and offers for sale databases and printed indexes to the
1881 Census. A byproduct of this massive project is this
two volume set of individuals listed in the 1881 Census
who were "born away".
Volume One contains those individuals who were born
elsewhere in North America (generally other Canadian
provinces or the United States). This book has a listing
of over 5,500 persons and includes the given and
surname of the individual, their residence on Prince
Edward Island, their age, and birthplace.
Volume Two contains those individuals who were born
outside of North America or at sea. This book has a
listing of over 8,300 persons and includes the given and
surname of the individual, their residence on Prince
Edward Island, their age, and birthplace. Many of these
individuals were born in England, Scotland, or Ireland.
But some originated from Germany, New Zealand,
Australia, Italy, Sweden, Bermuda, and other countries
across the world.
