Eastern Coyote
The Story of Its Success
Gerry Parker
One of the most adaptable and controversial animals in the
western hemisphere has recently colonized eastern North
America.  Since the mid-1800s, this jackal-sized predator, the
coyote, has spread from the grasslands of the western United
States and southwestern Canada north to Alaska, west to the
Pacific, south to Mexico, and east to Newfoundland.   Along
the way, these "wild dogs" have interbred with wolves and
domestic dogs, adapting to new environments with
remarkable dexterity.

Gerry Parker draws upon an exhaustive review of the
literature and his own experiences as a research biologist,
who studied the coyote in New Brunswick, to answer many of
the questions commonly asked of this new predator.  His
balanced perspective provides wildlife specialists, hunters,
and casual naturalists alike with the information they need to
make informed decisions on the future of the eastern coyote.
