Out of Thin Air
The Story of CFCY
"The Friendly Voice of the Maritimes"
Betty Rogers Large and
Tom Crothers
This is a history of a pioneer broadcasting station on Prince
Edward Island from the 1920's until 1989.

Betty Rogers writes, "the fall of the year 1922 stands out
vividly in my mind . . . that was the year Dad broadcast music
to his booth at the Provincial Exhibition . . . many had never
heard a radio before and very few had actually seen a
receiving set."  From these humble beginnings, CFCY would
be launched on Prince Edward Island.

This lively and entertaining account of CFCY is full of
memorable programs and portraits of people - Lt. Col. Keith
S. Rogers, L.A. "Art" McDonald, Don Messer, Charlie
Chamberlain and all the Islanders . . . "The Outports", "The
Early Birds", "The Sacred Hour", "The Sleepy Town
Express".

There is fascinating detail here for those in broadcasting or
for those who tune in.
