And My Name Is . . .
Stories From the Quilt
Margie Carmichael
Illustrations by Dale McNevin
Meet ordinary women with extraordinary gifts.

Shadowed by fear and absence of recognition, they are
women who live next door, and women who live in the
distance.   Age, race, and culture connect in the
timeless fabric of the quilt, stitching craft, patience, and
faith connecting the women through the threads of their
diversity.

"Anna" tells of her life after residential school; "Irini"
reflects on her life in war-torn Afghanistan.   In
"Tansie," two adults survive childhood abandonment.
And freelance funeral parlour cosmetician Flora Hill
offers insight into the lighter side of love, marriage, and
death.

In this first collection of short stories and poems by
singer-songwriter Margie Carmichael,
And My Name Is
. . . Stories From the Quilt
is a collaboration with
Charlottetown artist Dale McNevin.

Featuring illustrations by Dale McNevin, the book is a
collaboration that began with an original painting and
companion poem first published in the
Maritime Centre
of Excellence for Women’s Health 2000 Calendar

Excerpt from the Story “Tansie":

Tansie was at the kitchen table reading the paper when the car drove up the lane.
Evelyn stormed in the kitchen door. “Just what do you think you’re doing?”

“What are you talking about, dear?” Tansie asked innocently.

“What’s this about you taking in a boarder?”

“Actually, I’m renting to a tenant.”

“Aunt Tansie, how could you!”

“It was easy.  I put an ad in the paper.”
"After regaling audiences for years with her creative songs, stories, and plays, Margie Carmichael brings her
gifts to this marvellous collection of stories to warm the hearts of her readers.  Her collaboration with illustrator
Dale McNevin makes
Stories from the Quilt a collector's item."   - Frank Ledwell, Author of An Island Sketchbook
